Bill Magers brings a strong record of service and leadership to the position of Grayson County Judge. Judge Magers is a local businessman, Grayson County native, husband and father of 4, and a former 3-term Mayor of Sherman. Judge Magers graduated from Sherman High School and Austin College and later earned an MBA in Business Management.
Judge Magers has earned a reputation for providing results-oriented leadership by effectively managing growth and cultivating citizen involvement. For the second year in a row, Judge Magers and his fellow commissioners, department heads and staff delivered a county budget that lowers the tax rate while still meeting critical obligations on issues such as public safety, transportation, employee health care, and infrastructure investment. Judge Magers also worked successfully to return public comment to the Commissioner Court agenda.
Judge Magers’ leadership produced similar results at the City of Sherman during his tenure as Mayor. There, his first action was to solidify the practice of beginning each city council meeting with a prayer and pledge to the U.S. Flag. This practice had come under fire during the previous administration. He also led efforts to reduce property taxes, reinvest in road infrastructure, and secure 100% of Lake Texoma’s ground water allotment and establish a locally controlled ground water district. He also successfully led the effort to move Sherman’s municipal elections to the November ballot, thus dramatically increasing voter participation and reducing election costs.
Judge Magers is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), is active in numerous civic organizations and serves as a volunteer coach for youth sports. He and his wife, Angela, have also served as delegates to Republican Conventions and supported numerous conservative candidates and causes at the local, state and national level.
Judge Magers and Angela own the Montessori Academy of North Texas, where Angela oversees all the day-to-day operations. Bill is an investor in Stone Creek Golf Club and other commercial real estate.
Bill and Angela reside in Sherman with their 4 sons and are active members of First United Methodist Church.
